THE DAVEY BULLETIN
"
I'm extremely proud of (Newberry).
They are inspiring others in our area
to work safe. So, I can't be prouder
of them and I'm extremely proud to
work with such a fine group of guys.

Other crews in the Mid-Atlantic region have taken
notice of what the Newberry Electric crews have
achieved. After Newberry hit 1,000 days, many other
crews wanted to hit the same goal. Several work
groups in the mid-Atlantic region have hit 1,000
days and one is between 1,500 and 2,000 days:
• Duke Distribution Nantahala, three crews
made it to 1,000 days
• Easley Combined Utilities, 1,591 days
• Duke Transmission Central Region, 1,475 days
• Duke Transmission Mountain Region, 988 days
The leadership has changed, but the culture of caring for
each other and relying on the DPE concepts remains.
"They are a real tight group and Chris (Scott) has done
a fantastic job keeping it going," Rowe said.
The Newberry Electric crews feel a lot of pride for reaching
this milestone.
"I have one crew member, he's a bit older, and it's his goal
to retire with no incidents, so that's a good goal to have,"
Scott said. "Everybody has their own personal goals and
I think that helps out a lot, too."
Scott's advice for others looking to reach this milestone is
to simply listen to your crew members.
"Don't just shrug it off. Listen to what they have to say and
take it to heart," Scott said. "It could be something small
that could lead to something big. You never know."
Employees will do what they feel is important to their leader,
Rowe said. One key to achieving such success is strong
safety leadership, as employees tend to model how their
supervisors perform.
"They have to see that you truly believe in it," Rowe said.
"You have to lead by example."
The Newberry crew has come a long way since that first 1,000 days.
They're ready to keep this streak going to 4,000 days.
