How to Hire a Professional Tree Service

September 23, 2009

You’ve made a considerable investment in your landscape. You want to make sure that those you’ve hired to care for your trees are well-trained and understand your goals and the needs of your landscape. To schedule a consultation with a professionally trained certified arborist, visit http://www.davey.com/consultation. Steve Nagy, Davey Tree Service expert and ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, is going to advise you about the proper training to expect from a tree service company. One of the first things you can do is to ask detailed questions. Make sure you are comfortable with the tree service company’s credentials and training programs. – • Is the tree service company a TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association) accredited company? • Do they have ISA certified arborists on staff? • If not, how are their arborists trained? • Are they comfortable with the job they are quoting? • Are they insured? • Ask them to explain the process so that you are comfortable with their expertise level. Do they do this often? • Do they have proper PPE (personal protective equipment) like hard hats, safety glasses and ear protection? • Does their equipment appear clean and in working order, or is it worn and tattered? At Davey, we are fortunate to have a premier internal arborist training program that dates back more than a century, along with a strong culture of safety. While it may seem like an inconvenience, if you spend a few minutes to research tree service providers and ask questions in advance, you can avoid confusion, delay and even potential liability down the road.
